(NEW YORK CITY) – Victory Memorial Hospital (“Victory”), a private, not-for-profit institution in Brooklyn’s Bay Ridge section committed Medicare fraud by knowingly receiving and keeping nearly $3 million in Government overpayments for 1996 and 1997, according to a federal Complaint filed today with the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. Victory failed to report outpatient revenue which improperly inflated Government reimbursements, according to the Complaint. The allegations describe a form of “cost report” and “accounting” fraud Whistleblower Attorney Timothy J. McInnis, Esq. said.
The hospital and skilled nursing center, 92nd Street and 7th Avenue in southwest Brooklyn, filed for bankruptcy protection last year. However, McInnis explained, the whistleblower suit still will be proceeding now that the Government has joined the case.
